Jesus Himself
clearly predicted that in three days, he would
rise from the dead, thus fulfilling what was
written about Him in the Old Testament of the
Bible. The evidence has definitely proven
that on the third day, the tomb was indeed empty,
however, if Jesus did not rise from the dead,
then there are only three possible options
available for us to examine:
1) THE ROMANS STOLE THE
BODY
.
The
Romans had absolutely no motive, reason or desire
to steal the body - it would serve them no
purpose. The Romans actually played a major
part in the process of having Jesus crucified.
The concept of Jesus actually rising from the
dead would only created massive discord and
disturbance among the people and could jeopardize
Roman control and power. An empty tomb is
the last thing the Roman Empire wanted as it
gains them nothing and would only create an
uprising in the people!
2) THE JEWS STOLE THE
BODY
.
The
majority of the Jews did not want to accept Jesus
as the Son of God. These unbelieving Jews
were the ones who actually incited the
crucifixion. In fact, they are the ones who
asked to have Roman soldiers guard the tomb as
they wanted to make sure that no one would remove
the body of Jesus. Obviously, they were
doing everything within their power to be
absolutely certain that the body of Jesus would
definitely remain in the tomb!
3) THE DISCIPLES,
(followers), OF JESUS
STOLE THE BODY
.
This
option makes absolutely no sense at all since the
entire claims of Jesus were hinged on the
resurrection! This final event would now
prove without a doubt whether or not Jesus was
indeed the Son of God! If the disciples
stole the body, then there would be absolutely no
substance to their faith because everything they
would be no passion or desire for them to
continue serve them on gain. So as you can see,
there is no purpose or reason why the disciples
would want to steal the body because their hope
of obtaining everlasting life was based entirely
on the reality and legitimacy of Jesus actually
being resurrected! The disciple Peter said
it best, "For we have not followed cunningly
devised fables, when we made known unto you the
power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but
were eyewitnesses of his majesty" (II Peter
1:16).
You must also remember that
anyone who broke the Roman seal that was affixed
to the tomb would automatically face death by
upside-down crucifixion. And getting past
the Roman guards and moving the gigantic stone in
secret would be a major impossibility.
